Allotment of AIS officers to Telangana, Andhra Pradesh likely to be delayed

Mumbai: The allotment of All India Service (AIS) officers to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states is likely to be delayed further. The Department of Person-nel and Training (DoPT), which has already finalised the allottees list has referred it to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for approval. However, Mr Modi is expected to give his nod only after he returns to the country from the US after October 1.

The Chief Ministers of TS and AP, K. Chandrasekhar Rao and N. Chandrababu Naidu, have urged Mr Modi to complete the allotment process as soon as possible to enable them to begin full scale administration from Dasara. The administration in both the states has been paralysed for over three months following the bifurcation of the state on June 2. The bifurcation has resulted in severe shortage of IAS officers in both the states and each officer is supervising four departments on an average.

The Centre-appointed Prathyush Sinha committee has held a series of meetings with the chief secretaries of both the states since June to finalise the allotment. According to sources, some IAS and IPS officers were swapped between both the states following specific requests from the CMs to retain existing senior officials in crucial postings. However, the final list is kept confidential and is expected to be made public after the Prime Minister gives his nod. The DoPT will upload the details of officers allotted to TS and AP on its website after the PM’s Minister’s approval.
