CLT20 CSK vs LL: CSK-Lions game is a damp squib

The heavy downpour at Chinnaswamy stadium washed out match between both teams
Bengaluru: The dark grey clouds which played peek-a-boo early in the evening made way for pelting rain, throwing life out of gear in the city on Thursday. What it also did was play havoc with teams bunched in Group A of the Champions League T20 tournament. What started as a drizzle when the two teams—Chennai Super Kings and Lahore Lions were going through their pre-match drill, turned into a heavy downpour, half an hour prior to start of play (8 pm) at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium here.
With the toss deferred and an inspection scheduled for 10.45 pm, the teams would have hoped at least for a 5-over-a-side contest. But with thunderstorms, lightning and persistent rain showing no let up and a better part of the outfield dotted with huge puddles, the umpires decided to call off the match at 9 pm.
With the washout, both the teams walked away with two points each and in turn puts former champion Super Kings in a spot of bother. The Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led team now has eight points from three matches, including two points from the abandoned tie. While Kolkata Knight Riders have sealed their semifinals berth from this group, the race for the other last-4 spot from this group will be a keen contest.
