Students ransack Kanchi university
Students were not satisfied with the action taken against the electrician who shot obscene videos of girl students
Chennai: Students of Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Viswa Mahavidyalaya in Kancheepuram, near here, have allegedly ransacked their university campus as they were not satisfied with the university’s action taken against the electrician who shot obscene videos of girl students in the university hostel.
Several girl students, who found a cellphone recording video in the hostel bathroom on Wednesday, complained to hostel wardens M. Jothi Prabha and Vasudevan, who on enquiry found that it was J. Raja (33), an electrician, who had placed the cellphone in the bathroom to shoot videos of the girl students.
A group of students alleged that the wardens had reportedly destroyed the cellphone and sim card before lodging a complaint with the Kancheepuram taluk police, who arrested Raja and registered a case under several sections, including Information Technology Act.
Not satisfied with the manner in which the wardens destroyed the cellphone without handing it over to the police, the students ransacked the university alleging that the wardens were keen of safeguarding the electrician.
The university authorities were not available for comment. The university management is closed for holidays till October 6.
