The discovery was made after an old house, constructed some 70 years ago, was demolished

Hyderabad: The officials of the Archeology Department handed over some Nizam-era silver coins to Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao at the Secretariat on Wednesday.

Mr Rao has directed the officials to preserve the coins in the Archeology Department’s treasury.

Recently, the residents of Chandupatla village, of Bhongir mandal in Nalgonda, had unearthed 24 silver coins.

Some of the coins date back to 1921 AD and belong to the Nizam’s era.

The discovery was made after an old house, constructed some 70 years ago, was demolished.

The house belonged to one Maya Swamy, who had sold it to one Kurma Sangham, a couple of years ago.

Officials found that 11 of the coins belonged to the time of the sixth Nizam, Mir Mahbub Ali Khan, and 13 belonged to the era of the seventh Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan.

The coins weighed 266 gram.
