Jihadis used social organisations as front

Murder accused of Hindu Munnani general secretary are reportedly from two ‘socially committed’ organisations

Bengaluru: Two out of the four alleged jihadis and murder accused of Hindu Munnani general secretary - Suresh Kumar in Ambattur in Tamil Nadu on June 18, who were arrested last month from a house in Sonenahalli slum in Viveknagar police station limits in the city are reportedly from two ‘socially committed’ organisations in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

“Shameem has confessed that he was collecting funds for the organisation in Gulbarga and Sadiq is a member of another similar organisation in Tamil Nadu,” said the officer. Shameem and Sadiq along with the third accused Samiullah are in judicial custody at the Central Prison at Parapanna Agrahara, Bengaluru. The fourth accused Shahid Ali Nawaz is in judicial custody in TN.

The accused were arrested on August 6 in a joint operation by the city and TN police and taken to Chennai.

They were recently brought to Bengaluru on body warrants for interrogation. The TN police had the same day arrested two more persons - Abu Dagir and Haqeem - from a house in Hosur for alleged involvement in Kumar’s murder.

They are in judicial custody in Chennai. The accused are originally from Tamil Nadu, but Samiullah and Sadiq had migrated to Bengaluru some years ago.
