College girl stabbed for rejecting proposal
The girl was avoiding him for some time despite initial acceptance, says police
Chennai: A 19-year-old college girl was stabbed with a beer bottle in Villupuram district on Tuesday evening allegedly by a youth after she rejected his proposal. The girl, a second-year B.A. student, is still in hospital while the police on Wednesday nabbed the accused, a 22-year-old unemployed youth.
The incident happened in Enathi village, near Thiruvennai Nallur, when Santhi, daughter of a farmer, was returning home from college with her friend Asha, on a two-wheeler. The attacker, Manikandan, a ITI diploma holder, was following her on a bike and blocked their way.
After an argument, he took out an empty beer bottle and broke it before stabbing her. She suffered two injuries on her neck and another one on her back. Hearing the cries of the two girls, local people reached the spot.
By then, Manikandan had escaped. Santhi was taken to medical college hospital where she is recovering. She claimed that he had been stalking her for some time despite her refusing to accept his friendship. The police on Wednesday arrested the suspect.
Manikandan reportedly told the police that the girl was avoiding him for some time despite initial acceptance.
“She used to talk to me. She was friendly with me. But she is refusing to interact with me. I suspect she has found another boy friend. So, on Tuesday I confronted her and later stabbed her,” he told the police.
