Tourists demand express buses to Amaravati
RTC-run Palle Vagu bus take at least two hours to cover the 35-km distance between Guntur to Amaravati
Guntur: The absence of APSRTC express bus services to Amaravati is causing severe inconvenience to the public and tourists.
Besides being the frontrunner for the proposed capital, Amaravati is famous as an ancient Buddhist and Hindu pilgrimage centre due to the presence of the historical Amareswara Temple, Buddhist Mahachaitya, the Dhyana Buddha statue and other places of tourist interest.
Due to the absence of APSRTC express bus services, tour operators ply four-wheelers and force passengers, especially tourists, to shell out exorbitant sums of money . People from nearly 50 villages travel on the Guntur to Amaravati route. Interestingly, 40 private vans cater to the needs of these people.
Earlier, the APSRTC operated Amareswara express services with 60 trips per day, but gradually decreased the number of services and later cancelled them altogether. Amaravati is abuzz with activity every day, with domestic and foreign tourists visiting this multi-religious pilgrimage centre.
A group of students who had come from Eluru said that it was strange that the RTC-run Palle Vagu bus take at least two hours to cover the 35-km distance between Guntur to Amaravati, despite the road being two-lane.
“It is time the RTC introduces express, luxury, super luxury and other types of buses since tourist volume will increase,” said students N. Phanidra and E. Kalyan.
S. Ganesh, a teacher, said that nearly 10,000 employees go to Guntur and adjacent areas every day and they have to board private vehicles to reach their destination quickly. “RTC must reintroduce the express services,” he said.
