Three shot dead on NH5 near Vijayawada

The deceased were identified as Gandham Nageswara Rao and his son Gandham Maaraiah

Vijayawada: In an act of revenge, two people from a family were shot dead on Wednesday morning on NH5 near Pedda Outupalli village in Unguturu mandal of Krishna district.

The deceased were identified as Gandham Nageswara Rao, 55, and his son Gandham Maaraiah, 36.

Another person, who has been identified as Gandham Pagidi Maaraiaha, received severe injuries and is reportedly undergoing treatment at hospital, according to DCP Mr Tafseer Iqubal. However, sources at the hospital said that third person is also dead.

Eight bullets were found at the spot of crime. The police suspect that the killers were hired. According to the information, the victims were accused in a murder case at Pedavegi village of West Godavari district.

A six-member gang shot the victims with pistols, while they were heading towards Eluru in a hired car to appear before court regarding the murder case.

The victims' car driver, who escaped from the spot surrendered at Eluru Police Station along with the owner of the car travel company.

Surrounding areas of Unguturu and Vijayawada are being thoroughly checked by the police in a bid to nab criminals who also came in a car. Police suspect it was revenge killing over family disputes.

Meanwhile, the incident has caused traffic jam on the highway also police blocked part of road.
