Telangana educational institutes to be closed
Schools will remain closed from Wednesday and will only reopen on October 6
Hyderabad: With Batukamma festival being recognised as a state festival, the Telangana state government has asked educational institutions in the state to remain closed for an expanded 15-day period for Batukamma and Dasara from this year. The extra days will compensated during the Sankranti festival, where holidays will be reduced by two days. With this, schools have postponed their quarterly exams. They will now be held after the schools reopen in October.
Schools will remain closed from Wednesday and will only reopen on October 6.
S. Srinivas Reddy, president, Telangana Private School Managements’ Association, said, “We are asking all schools to abide by the decision, but some schools are still going against the directives. We are asking them to close for the holidays. Exams have already been postponed to October.”
The Board of Intermediate Education has also communicated that since holidays are to be declared now, the later part of exams have been postponed to October. BIE said colleges will remain closed from September 25, Thursday, and reopen on October 8. Colleges will function on January 10 and 11, 2015, to compensate for the loss of working days due to the change in Dasara holiday schedule.
Chief Minister K. Chandr-asekhar Rao asked education department officials to ensure that schools and colleges remain closed for 15 days during the Batukamma and Dasara festival period. He said that the state festival didn’t get the prominence it deserved in the erstwhile state.
