Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif leaves for New York to attend UN session

The premier will also co-chair a summit along with US vice president Joe Biden

Islamabad: Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday left for New York to attend the annual session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said that Sharif is expected to address the UN General Assembly on Friday.

The spokesperson said that the premier will also co-chair a UN peacekeeping summit along with US Vice President Joe Biden and a few other world leaders.

She also said that Sharif will hold bilateral meetings with many world leaders during his visit to the US on the sidelines of the session without naming them.

Sharif will also participate in an energy conference along with the premiers of Norway and Denmark during which they will explore ways to acquire energy through non-conventional sources.

It is expected that leaders of about 120 countries will attend the UN General Assembly's 59th session.
