CLT20 CSK vs DOL: Raina helps Chennai Super Kings to victory over Dolphins

The left handed batsman scored 90 runs to set up victory for his team
Bengaluru: For a stadium usually bathed in red during T20 matches, the splash of yellow was a novelty and in some ways, a welcome change. Out for a Monday evening entertainer, the 25,000-odd spectators were treated to a blockbuster show by the Chennai Super Kings in their second outing in the Champions League T20 contest at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium here.
Burying the Dolphins under a barrage of maximums and boundaries, the 2010 champions posted a mammoth 242 for six.
In reply, the Dolphins did try to make a match of it, but fell short in batting depth and experience as they wound up for 188 in the last ball, handing the Super Kings a 54-run victory.
Initially, the Dolphins' would have fancied their chances as openers Morne Van Wyk (17, 7b, 2x4, 1x6) and Cameron Delport (34, 9b, 5x4, 2x6) offered a shade of hope with some big hits off in the first two overs.
Reality hit them in the 10th ball of the innings as Wyk was sent back with a contentious leg before decision going against him. Delport who looked very promising, played a Mohit Sharma delivery a tad too early and saw his stumps being uprooted.
Cody Chetty (38, 28b, 3x4, 2x6) then kept his leg on the accelerator, but his departure saw the run rate fall. From there on, their hopes faded as wickets fell at regular intervals and the asking rate went up north.
Sharma (4/41), Dwayne Bravo (2/9) and Ashish Nehra (2/42) turned in impressive bowling performances for the winners.Earlier, in 96 minutes of mindless entertainment on a batting paradise, Mahendra Singh Dhoni's men swung their bat at every ball that came their way and treated the opposition bowlers with total disdain.
Leading the assault were Suresh Raina (90, 43b, 4x4, 8x6) and Brendon Mc Cullum (49, 29b, 5x4, 3x6). Ravindra Jadeja then added the finishing touches in a highly engaging style, smacking a 14-ball 40.
Every inch of the park was stamped with the Chennai outfit’s superiority as they reduced a majority of the Dolphins’ fielders to ball boys.
