We can be alternative force: BJP
Chennai: While many Opposition parties sulked and stayed away from the local body byelections, the BJP had ‘boldly’ contested to prove that it could be ‘an alternative force’ in TN, said its state president Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan on Monday.
Asserting that the saffron party had fared ‘well’ in the elections, she said, “Our party had faced the polls democratically and put up a strong fight. We resisted money and muscle power.” Reacting to the saffron party’s debacle, she alleged that in several areas the voters had been prevented from exercising their franchise and in some cases bogus votes were cast. The party candidates for Hosur and Ramanathapuram had retained their deposits while a few had won in the ward polls too.
The party had fared well in Kanyakumari too while party candidates K. Jayalakshmi and Nandakumar had finished second in the Thoothukudi and Coimbatore mayoral elections. “This election has infused renewed energy in us,” she added and thanked her partymen for putting a brave fight.
