VIPs not to be allowed to Jodeghat

Cops said they exchanged fire with Maoists
Adilabad: Adilabad district police are not likely to allow VIPs, including ministers, MLAs and the collector, to offer tributes to legendary tribal leader Komaram Bheem this year on the occasion of his 74th death anniversary to be observed on October 8 due to security reasons. It is for the first time that the tribal leader’s death anniversary is being observed in separate Telangana state.
Police sources said elected public representatives may not be allowed to take part in the programme to be held at Jodeghat as Maoists were moving in forests and that they even exchanged fire with them twice recently. In such a situation, the official programme of Bheem’s death anniversary may be confined to ‘Hatti’, the base camp, from where Jodeghat is 22 km away in the forest in Kerameri mandal.
However, the tribals of Adilabad district have doubts on the police claims that they had spotted Maoists and wonder why the Naxalites enter into the district every year only during Komaram Bheem’s death anniversary.“It is very common for police to make a hue and cry over Maoists’ movement, just two months before Bheem’s death anniversary every year,” said an Adivasi leader.
The tribal leaders charged police with not allowing VIPs to Jodeghat and preventing them from taking part in Komaram Bheem’s death anniversary every year on the pretext of threat to their lives from Maoists.
