Staff shuffle for golden Telangana

Special focus on revenue employees
Khammam: The state government is contemplating to overhaul all the departments in a big way, the revenue department in particular, to check malpractice and provide efficient services to the people, as part of achieving ‘Bangaru Telangana’.The district collector was told to streamline the revenue department first by positioning right persons in key positions. There are reports of heavy corruption in the revenue department which it is found has led to alienation of hundreds of acres of government land worth of crores of rupees.
The indiscriminate alienation has left the government with practically, no land to allot for public purposes. As part of the reshuffling of officials, the district administration has begun identifying posts that have direct contact with the people. At the same time, employees working in revenue department would be scrutinised for their service motto, attitude, nature. Their previous records of service will be taken into consideration for deciding on posting them in key positions.
An official of the revenue department said: “There is a clear cut message from the government not to entertain any political intervention in the process of transferring employees. The government is of the opinion that the revenue department is the most corrupt.”In Khammam district, nearly 105 village revenue officers are facing allegations of embezzlement of funds and nine mandal revenue officers do not have a good track record.
Some mandal revenue offices also have the dubious distinction of being hubs of graft wherein officials are known for not signing any file without taking kickbacks. The government aims to check the malpractice in a phased manner. Any employee who had completed two years of service at a place will be shifted.
Over 13 MROs have been working at the same place for the last four years and seven others have not been residing in their place of work. The Telangana government is committed to good governance in the separate state, said a TRS activist.
