Bengaluru gears up for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's maiden visit
Packed affair with party, public meetings; traffic in the city set to go out of gear
Bengaluru: The tight security planned for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the city, his first since assuming office three months ago, is expected to throw traffic out of gear in central Bengaluru Tuesday evening. Mr Modi, who will land at the HAL airport at 4.50 pm is expected to welcomed by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah before proceeding to Raj Bhavan at 6.30 pm after a meeting with party workers and leaders at the airport.
With police cordoning off most junctions enroute, traffic will be hit on MG Road, Old Madras Road, Old Airport Road, Brigade Road, Residency Road and their surrounding areas during peak hours, Tuesday evening. The police has advised commuters to avoid these roads even if it means taking longer detours to get to their destination.
City Additional Police Commissioner, Alok Kumar said trained commandos will be deployed at sensitive points along the route of the Prime Minister's convoy, and a large number of policemen from the traffic and the law and order wings will be relied to provide security over the next two days.
“We have drawn up both security and traffic plans for Mr Modi's visit.
Tuesday is crucial as the traffic movement may be affected for a short while during the evening hours. But on Wednesday morning, traffic is unlikely to be hit as the Prime Minister will leave for ISRO in Peenya at 6 am. Also, with Wednesday being a holiday, there will be very little traffic," he said, adding that the traffic police would try to divert traffic on alternative roads for the convenience of commuters.
Besides visiting ISRO in Peenya, the Prime Minister will take part in a business meet at the International Exhibition Centre on the NICE road corridor, and later travel to Tumkur to inaugurate a mega food park, reportedly the largest in Asia.
