PM Modi Karnataka visit: Clean-up act, Mayor gets desperate

It appears that it takes the PM Modi’s visit for the BBMP to keep the city clean and tidy
Bengaluru: A day ahead of Mr Narendra Modi’s visit to Bengaluru, roads from Peenya to Old Airport Road are all set to be spruced up, thanks to the BBMP’s desperate attempt to please the Prime Minister.
It appears that it takes the Prime Minister’s visit for the BBMP to keep the city clean and tidy. Mr Modi will arrive in the city at 5.30 pm on Tuesday, address the party workers on HAL premises, and visit the ISTRAC lab in Peenya on Wednesday. In a knee-jerk reaction, the BBMP pulled its socks to ensure that the roads through which the PM's convoy passes wears a new look.
Although it sounded an uphill task for the BBMP, Mayor N. Shanta Kumari during the inspection, warned, “Even if you have to stay awake all through the night, stay back at the spot and finish the work. I want all the potholes filled, footpaths cleaned and garbage and construction debris cleared. The road should also be asphalted.”
Potholes on Old Airport Road, heaps of garbage on footpaths on Dickenson Road and hordes of street vendors near the HAL Airport left the mayor and BJP corporators appalled. Aware of the BBMP workers’ pace, the mayor left strict instructions to leave no work pending, even if they had to slog all night.
