Visakhapatnam: A cue on maintaining greenery in residential areas can be taken from the residents of Kirlampudi Layout. Residents of this swanky uptown colony like to maintain their surroundings as green as possible. Recently, they undertook a sapling plantation drive across the entire colony during which they identified damaged plants and replaced them with new saplings.

Kirlampudi Residents Welfare Association secretary Uday Shirname says, “The purpose behind conducting this plantation drive is many. While it helps keeping the colony green it also acts as a platform for the residents to get-together for a good cause.”

The drive was conducted for the first time last year on the occasion of Independence Day and more than 250 saplings were planted in the colony. The colony presents a changing picture of Vizag as many large individual houses are giving way to luxury apartments. The colony stays picturesquely green because residents also take up responsibility.

This year’s drive was conducted for the same purpose.Shirname says, “Every resident is responsible for two plants in front of their house. They take care of the plants including watering it regularly and providing manure.”
