Departments to be cut down, merged, post split

The secondary, intermediate and primary and the education department will function under one head
Hyderabad: The government will soon be merging departments and this will help settle the issue of lack of adequate officials. It will also ensure the viability of the department or institutions, owing to reduction in business, due to the bifurcation.
For instance, the secondary, intermediate and primary and the education department will function under one head in the coming days.
While some of the bigger departments like the finance department, which consists of three secretaries, the irrigation department which consists of four secretaries, the medical and health department that has more than one IAS official, will be reduced in strength and size owing to bifurcation.
A higher official of the TS government said, “Running a small corporation, after the bifurcation, with same strength as now, will be unviable. Hence, several departments will be merged. While some, which would have larger businesses would continue to have the same strength.”
Ajay Mishra, principal secretary, general administration department, said, “The exercise of merging would certainly be taken up according to the viability and functioning of departments of the new state.”
