Amma Canteen at four more government hospitals

The inaugurated canteens will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner for about 400 people in a day

Chennai: Chief minister J. Jayalalithaa on Monday extended the Amma canteen scheme to four city government hospitals. She also tasted the food served at the canteen and instructed corporation officials to be cautious with hygiene and quality of the food as patients and children were beneficiaries of the scheme. No sooner Ms Jayalalithaa tasted curd and lemon rice, the state ministers made a beeline to taste the food.

An official press release here said that the canteens were declared open at Government Kasturbhai Gandhi materinity hospital in Triplicane, Royapuram RSRM hospital, Kilpauk Medical College hospital and Royapettah government hospital. State ministers and top bureaucrats accompanied Ms Jayalalithaa for the function. As on date there are 203 Amma canteen in Chennai and the government has planned to extend the scheme in suburban areas.

The inaugurated canteens will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner for about 400 people in a day. The module is an instant hit and is to be implemented by other states including at AP, Rajasthan and Delhi, sources said.
