Nellore: District Congress Committee is in a fix over organising party programmes, be it protests against the government or birth or death anniversaries of the party’s national-level leaders, except in the district headquarters, Nellore.In normal circumstances, party legislators or defeated candidates function as constituency in-charges and take care of the party programmes in all the 10 Assembly segments in the district.
However, the party failed to win even single seat in the 2014 elections in the district. Moreover majority of those contested are newcomers and they disappeared after the humiliating defeat.Even those remaining in the party have been keeping away from the party affairs since they have to spend from their pockets to organise programmes.The party activities almost came to a standstill in Kovur, Kavali, Sullurpeta, Gudur, Udayagiri and Surveypalli because of the absence of the party leaders.
The situation is more or less same in Atmakur also but party men are ready to carryout party work if former minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy orders them. The party presence is felt in Venkatagiri because of Nedurumalli Ramkumar Reddy and at the district headquarters due to Anam brothers.Former legislator Anam Vivekananda Reddy, his brother Vijayakumar Reddy and sons A.C. Subba Reddy, Rangamayoor Reddy and DCC chief Dhanunjaya Reddy have been conducting one event or other in regular intervals.
When contacted Mr Dhanunjaya Reddy admitted that the situation is bad in many constituencies.He underlined the need to launch a drive to enroll fresher’s not only in Nellore, all over the state while reminding that most of the party cadres left with leaders who migrated to ruling party or YSR Congress before the general elections.
He said that it is the right time to inject new blood into the party since people are looking at the Congress as the Telugu D essam is dilly-dallying over loan waiver scheme and YSR Congress already became a divided house.
