Folk artistes trek up Tirumala

They express agony that many of them have no food
Tirupati: Registering a strong protest against the state government’s attitude in not resolving their pending issues for a long time now, close to 5000 folk artistes of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana undertook a holy trek from Alipiri to Tirumala seeking the divine intervention of Lord Venkateswara on Sunday.The rally organised by the ‘Janapada Vruthi Kalakarula Sangham’ began their holy trek after offering prayers at the holy feet of the Lord at the Alipiri Padala Mandap-am on Sunday morning.
Speaking to media persons on the lines of their protest march to Tirumala, the folk artistes hailing from different parts of the state urged the state government to preserve the treasure of folk art forms for time to come through a series of measures.The artistes expressed agony that thousands of them were languishing even for two square meals a day with the consecutive state governments turning a blind eye to their issues.
The artistes also demanded that the state government and the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams administration provide them the opportunities to perform devotional programmes at Tirumala and other local temples attached to the TTD, besides providing free accommodation and food during the performance.The artistes began their holy trek from Alipiri to Tirumala amusing the fellow devotees with their performances en route the pedestrian route.
