Allocate Rs 50 Lakh works to Village Tribal Development Agency: Tribals
Tribal leaders feel the allocation will make them financially strong
Adilabad: Tribals of Adilabad district, on Sunday, demanded that the state government should allocate construction and development works worth Rs50 lakh being taken up in the ITDA limits to the village tribal development agency (VTDA), instead of contractors. Speaking at a district-level meeting of VTDA members and leaders at Utnoor , the tribal leaders lamented that ITDA had stopped allocation of works to VTDAs long ago.
The allotment of works to VTDA without calling for tenders would make the members feel more responsible and accountable with regard to quality of works, one of the tribal leaders felt. He said it would also bring in more transparency in the works.
Adilabad MP Godam Nagesh, who was the chief guest at the programme, said the state government was planning to allocate works to village committees, as part of Mana Ooru—Mana Pranalika. He said he will take the issue of allocation of works to VTDAs to the notice of the state government as the move will strengthen tribals, who are members of VTDAs.
A resolution has also been passed to urge the government to bestow powers to VTDAs to monitor the functioning of Ashram schools, hostels and primary health centres.
