Congress will rise like phoenix: Oommen Chandy
KOZHIKODE: The Congress has a history of rising from the ashes like the phoenix, and history would repeat itself in the coming days, according to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. Addressing a convention of the party’s selected booth presidents from the district at the DCC office here on Saturday, he said, “every party faces victories and defeats. A party becomes strong when it works hard to come out of the defeat and when it does not take victory for granted. We came back strongly under the leadership of Indira Gandhi in 1980 after we lost the previous election in 1977.
The Congress will return to power in the coming elections too,” he said. The results of the recent bypolls showed that the Congress had a place in the hearts of the people. “The party would analyse its mistakes and take corrective measures to regain the confidence of the masses. In Rajasthan, the BJP had swept the Lok Sabha polls. However, in the by-polls, the Congress candidates won. This is a good sign,” Mr Chandy said.
The organisational activities should be strengthened from the booth level, he said and urged the Congress workers to work hard for the success of KPCC president V.M Sudheeran’s upcoming yatra and related campaigns, including fund-raising programmes.
