Teenage girl pretends to be boy, robs neighbour of 60 sovereigns

THANJAVUR: The police are on the look-out for a 16-year-old girl studying plus-one, who, masquerading as a boy along with her brother, looted 60 sovereigns of jewels and Rs 15,000 cash from a house
after tying up the woman inmate near Kumbakonam on Frida afternoon.
Anwarnisha was alone at home on Friday when two masked robbers barged into the house. The robbers tied her hands and legs with her sari, before looting her jewels and cash. Anwarnisha, who managed to work herself free, rushed out and raised an alarm. Hearing her screams, local residents chased the two robbers, running along a field, and nabbed one of them, while his associate managed to escape.
On being informed, the police arrived at the spot interrogated the masked robber. Much to their shock, the robber turned out to be her neighbor’s son, Jagan Sundar (23). The police recovered Rs 15,000 from him.
It was also found that that Jagan Sundar’s associate who fled with 60 sovereigns of stolen jewels was none other than his own sister, Lavanya (16), who had masqueraded as a boy. Lavanya is studying plus-one in Kumbakonam, the police said.
