Telangana government to take back Hare Krishna land

The government allotted it without approval from the department

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has initiated measures to take over the nearly five acres of land allotted to the Hare Krishna movement in the Banjara Hills area by the YSR government in 2009. The land is under dispute and there is a tussle between the Hare Krishna movement, the revenue department and the endowments department over ownership.

Revenue officials found that out of the 4.38 acres allotted to Hare Krishna, 2.14 acres belonged to the revenue department and the rest to the endowments department.

The officials submitted a report to the government stating that at the time of land allotment to Hare Krishna in 2009, the 2.14 acres in survey No. 4/2 belonging to the revenue department was shown as endowment land and the government allotted it without approval from the department. These lands are part of the Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple of Nalgonda, which owns 47.19 acres in Banjara Hills. Land sharks grabbed the land and sold it illegally.

As a result many colonies have come up here.

Later, the YSR government allotted 4.38 acres to the Hare Krishna Movement, which was strongly opposed by locals. They recently met KCR and sought cancellation of the allotment.

Te CM asked collector Meena to find out the truth. Revenue officers found that barring the land given to Hare Krishna the entire land belonging to the temple had been grabbed.

The report has been submitted to the CM who has to take a decision on cancelling the land allotment to the Hare Krishna Movement and to clear the encroachments on temple lands.
