No Modi wave; INLD to form next govt in Haryana: Abhay Singh Chautala

‘Had there been a Modi wave, BJP would not have lost so many seats in recent bypolls’

New Delhi: Haryana's main Opposition party INLD said on Saturday that there was no "Modi wave" in the country and claimed it was well positioned to form the next government in the state after assembly polls scheduled for October 15.

"There is no Modi wave. Had there been a Modi wave, BJP would not have lost so many seats in the recent bypolls in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat," INLD leader Abhay Singh Chautala told reporters on Saturday.

"Before the Lok Sabha Polls, Modi used to say that inflation would be controlled but the NDA government raised rail fares immediately after coming to power and also failed in containing inflation. It also could not give remunerative prices to farmers for paddy crop as per Swaminathan Commission report," he said.

Asked about the possibility of entering into an alliance post elections, Chautala said there would be no hung assembly after polls as INLD was well positioned to form the next government in the state.

"We will win over 60 seats and form the next government on our own. There is no question of hung assembly after polls. Everybody in the state is supporting INLD," Chautala claimed. "In these elections, Congress and BJP will fight for number 2 and 3 slots," he said. Chautala said that sitting MLAs as well as party members were deserting the Congress while BJP did not have candidates for contesting polls on all 90 seats.

Asked about few Haryana BJP leaders objecting to proposed electioneering by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in favour of INLD candidates, Chautala said SAD was INLD's ally in Haryana and would be supporting the party in coming assembly polls.

"We have been assured by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash

Singh Badal that SAD will continue to stand with INLD in Haryana. Many Punjab MLAs and minister have been assigned for campaigning in favour of INLD in assembly polls," he said.

Meanwhile, he said, INLD will be holding a massive function at Jind on the 100th birth anniversary of former deputy Prime Minister Devi Lal on September 25.
