Thailand offer to showcase Vizag
Local entrepreneurs asked to start business in Thailand
Visakhapatnam: Thailand has extended its expertise and support to local entrepreneurs in various sectors like handicrafts, aqua culture, tourism and hospitality. A trade delegation of the Royal Thai Consulate during their maiden visit to Vizag on Friday were impressed with the tourism potential the city offers with pristine beaches, various historical monuments including Buddhist sites.
Talking on the sidelines of a session on “Investment and trade opportunities in Thai-land’ organised by CII-Vizag region, the Thai delegation offered help to the government in promoting Vizag back home and also in other South East Asian countries. Thailand officials have also shown interest in artisans exchange programme in promoting handicrafts of both AP and their country.
“Beaches and historical monuments on the east coast from Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu till Odisha, particularly, Vizag are much better than those in Thailand. Government here is not concentrating much here in tourism. But there is not much connection to Vizag from South East Asian countries. We offer our expertise, support to promote Vizag. Locals can use Bangkok as hub to advertise Vizag in South East Asia,” said Deputy Consul General (Commercial), Royal Thai Consulate Somsak Triamjangarun.
He reminded how a small place like Phuket in Thailand can attract so many tourists worldwide. He said that there is a need for a direct flight from Vizag to Thailand. The Thai delegation assured of taking up the issue of launching direct flight with the state carrier and other private airlines in Thailand.
They said its very easy to start business in Thailand and asked the local entrepreneurs to set up companies in their country. The Thai government representatives further said that it costs just Rs 12,000 to register a company in Thailand and the registration process will be done in less than an hour.
Thailand Board of Investment director Kanokporn Chotipal explained the investment potential sectors in Thailand. CII representatives Neeraj Sarda and R.V.S. Raju stressed the need for a direct flight to Thailand and also explained the potential in India in tourism, IT, ITES sectors for Thailand to invest.
