Prime Minister Narendra Modi expresses grief over Srinivas death

PM recalled the Mandolin Maestro’s dedication & contribution towards music

CHENNAI: Expressing grief over the demise of renowned mandolin exponent Uppalapu Srinivas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended his dedication and said the musician will always be remembered.

“The PM recalled the Mandolin Maestro’s dedication & longstanding contribution towards music & added that he will always be remembered,” Mr Modi’s official Twitter handle, @PMOIndia said.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa credited Srinivas with introducing the musical instrument of mandolin to the people.

Governor K. Rosaiah described Srinivas as an “accomplished” mandolin artiste who brought fame to India.

The film industry grieved the death of the mandolin player.

“Emotionally shaken to hear of Carnatic shining star Mandolin Shrinivas-ji’s demise... May God bless him with happiness in the next world,” A.R. Rahman said.

Union minister Nirmala Sitharaman and many others condoled his death on social media.

Music composer and singer Shankar Mahadevan tweeted: “A big part of my musical journey ended today with U Srinivas .. Devastated.”

Oscar-winning sound designer Pookutty wrote, “What an amazing musician.”
