Full Pulichintala by 2015: Officials
The project was initiated 10 years ago
VIJAYAWADA: Irrigation officials hope that they would be able to store 45.6 tmc feet of water, the capacity, in the Pulichintala project by next kharif season. Though the project has been designed for 45.6 tmc feet, officials could store only seven tmc feet of water this year.
The irrigation department had earlier planned to store 11 tmc feet of water in the first year, but had to settle for only seven tmc feet as several villages in Nalgonda and Guntur districts were submerged. However, Pulichintala project SE V.S. Ramesh Babu said that they can store 11 tmc feet as per the plan by next week.
“The Telangana government should rehabilitate the people in villages inundated on that side of the border. That will be done in about a week. It is only after that that we can store 11 tmc feet as per plan,” he said.
Though the project was initiated 10 years ago, another five per cent of the people need to be rehabilitated and resettled.
