Aswaraopet bandh total, peaceful
The MLA was attacked by Telugu Desam workers at Kukkunoor on Thursday
Khammam: The Aswaraopet Assembly constituency bandh call given by the YSRC on Friday to protest the attack on MLA Thati Venkateswarlu by TD activists was total and peaceful. With the TRS extending support to the bandh, life in four of the six mandals Aswaraopet, Mulakalapally, Dammapet, Chandrugonda and Velierpad ground to a halt.
The MLA was attacked by TD workers at Kukkunoor on Thursday during a meeting attended by Eluru MP Maganti Babu and West Godavari district collector K. Bhaskar. The two mandals, Velierpad and Kukkunoor have been transferred to AP to facilitate the construction of the Polavaram project. YSRC and TRS activists staged rasta roko at Mandalapalli crossroads, leading to thousands of vehicles being stranded between Rajahmundry and Khammam.
Effigies of Maganti Babu were burnt at Aswaropet, Mulakalapally and Dammapet. Raising slogans against the high-handedness of TD leaders, YSRC and TRS activists went around Aswaraopet, asking traders to down their shutters. YSRC leaders Jupally Srinu, Pagadala Ramesh, N. Prasad and D. Yugandhar participated in the stir. The MLA accused TD workers of attacking him and Telangana slogans.
