Aswaraopet Assembly segment bandh bandh over attack on MLA peaceful
MLA was attacked by TD workers at Kukkunoor on Thursday
Khammam: The Aswaraopet Assembly segment bandh call given by the YSRC on Friday to protest the attack on MLA Thati Venkateswarlu by Telugu Desam activists was total and peaceful. With the TRS extending its support to the bandh, life in four of the six mandals, Aswaraopet, Mulakalapally, Dammapet, Chandrugonda and Velierpad ground to a halt.
The MLA was attacked by TD workers at Kukkunoor on Thursday during a meeting attended by Eluru MP Maganti Babu and West Godavari district collector K. Bhaskar. The two mandals, Velierpad and Kukkunoor have been transferred to AP to facilitate the construction of the Polavaram project.
YSRC and TRS activists staged rasta roko at Mandalapalli crossroads, leading to thousands of vehicles being stranded between Rajahmundry and Khammam. Effigies of Mr Maganti Babu was burnt by YSRC activists at Aswaropet, Mulakalapally and Dammapet. Raising slogans against the high-handedness of TD leaders, YSRC and TRS activists went around Aswaraopet, asking traders to down their shutters.
YSRC leaders Jupally Srinu, Pagadala Ramesh, N. Prasad and D. Yugandhar participated in the stir. The MLA had accused TD workers of attacking him when he raised slogans in favour of Telangana state.
