Visual disturbances linked to neurological disorders

Visual disturbances are often associated with neurological disorders
Visakhapatnam: Visual disturbances can be symptoms of other conditions, including neurological disorders, muscular disorders, vascular disease, cancers or trauma, said noted neuro-ophthalmologist Dr Swaraj Bose during a guest lecture on ‘The Eye and the Brain’ organised by GITAM Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (GIMS) here on Wednesday.
He also informed that the visual disturbances are often associated with neurological disorders such as double vision, nystagmus, reduced visual field and acuity, a full or total loss of vision due to swollen optic disc.
Dr Swaraj Bose is an associate professor and director of neuro-ophthalmology and orbital surgery at the CEDARS Sinai Medical Centre, Los Angeles. He said that only 260 neuro-opthalmologists are treating the problems in the entire world. He mentioned that the coordination between the doctors who are treating eye and neurology to better understand the eye problems.
