Sreedharan happy with pace of work of Kochi metro
Kochi: Confronted with widespread public protest against the poor condition of roads along the Metro Rail corridor, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation(DMRC) principal advisor, E. Sreedharan on Thursday visited the Metro construction sites from Aluva to Maharajas College to see the progress of the repair work for himself.
While satisfied with the pace of work, he instructed the contractor agencies to complete resurfacing the roads within two or three days. He was also happy with the progress of Metro’s civil work and directed the contractor agencies to complete it by October 2015. The system contractors can start laying tracks, installing rails, supplying power and focusing on the signalling work only after the civil work is completed.
Visiting the coach maintenance yard site at Muttom , Dr Sreedharan gave strict instructions for all essential work to be completed before the first coach is delivered at the depot in January 2016.
Meanwhile, several stretches along the Metro corridor remain in dilapidated condition, much to the anger of the people.
The pothole-ridden Palarivattom–Edappally stretch has still not been repaired and sees regular traffic jams as a result. The patchwork done at Kaloor junction has worn off, leaving it once again in bad condition. Motorists and others risk their lives while travelling on these poorly maintained roads.
