NGO shows way to Telangana government

Telangana govt is planning to involve more NGOs to provide quality English education

Hyderabad: Enthused with the success of the Teach for Change initiative in government schools, the Telangana state government is planning to involve more NGOs to provide quality English education to students from poorer sections.

The TS government has already announced its plans to set up English-medium schools from Class I to XII in all the mandals, starting next year in a phased-manner.

Besides, the government is planning to hold training sessions for all its teachers in English, to improve their teaching skills with the help of NGOs.

“Our aim is make Telangana students globally competitive. For this, English education is a must. Students from poorer sections cannot afford English-medium schools in the private sector. In government schools, on which poorer sections depend, the standard of English teaching is poor.

The success of initiatives like Teach for Change has showed us the way to provide quality English education for free in government schools. We will encourage more such NGOs to actively associate with the government schools and help it in achieving the goal of quality English education for all,” said Jagadishwar Reddy, minister for education. He lauded the efforts of Teach for Change organisers and volunteers.

“The government will assist the NGOs in all possible ways to take this initiative forward,” Mr Reddy added
