Megacity planned near Kalyani dam
Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu wants to develop a world-class megacity with universities, amusement parks, hospitals, sports stadiums etc. near Kalyani dam in Tirupati, in his home district Chittoor.
Mr Naidu has already identified 5,000 acre of forest land near Kalyani dam and has directed the forest department officials to write to the Centre requesting to denotify the land. He has also asked officials to inform the Centre that the state government would allot 5,000 acre of land elsewhere to the forest department.
The Kalyani dam is the main source of water for Tirupati and Tirumala.
On the 5,000 acre, Mr Naidu wants to develop various hubs with world-class standards. Private universities, sports stadium, amusement parks, corporate hospital and other institutions will be developed.
The CM, however, does not want the financial burden of the project to entirely fall on the state government. Instead, he wants private players to come forward in this project.
