Godavari Maha Kumbh Mela fete from July 14 in 2015
State to sanction Rs 510 crore for Kumb Mela
Kakinada: Godavari Maha Kumbh Mela will be organised from July 14 in 2015, said state endowments commissioner Y.V. Anuradha.
At a meeting held with the officials on Thursday to review the arrangements for the Godavari fete here on Thursday, she directed the officials to ensure that the proper arrangements are in place for the benefit of a large number of devotees coming from far off places.
She said that the East Godavari Collector Neetu Kumari Prasad has submitted proposals for organising the fete worth Rs 510 crores and added that they identified works to provide amenities at the initial stage at a cost of Rs 131 crores and added that they would be taken up on priority basis. The works include: Rs 70 crores for roads and buildings, Rs 15 crores for irrigation, Rs 30 crores for Rajahmundry municipal corporation, Rs five crores for panchayat raj and the remaining amount for other departments including rural water supply.
She directed the irrigation officials to take up construction of 78 new bathing ghats in addition to the existing 62. She also asked them to take up approach roads to the ghats and categorise ghats as A, B and C and send proposals accordingly. She instructed the R and B officials to lay roads and asked the panchayat raj authorities to ensure proper sanitation.
She asked the officials to bring about awareness among the local people to avoid open defecation along the banks of the river. She asked the officials to organise cultural programmes on a grand manner on July 13 before the official inauguration of the fete as a large number of prominent persons visit the city to take part in the Godavari Pushkarams.
