Boulders fall on Indrakeeladri ghat

Boulders started falling on the ghat road due to incessant rain for the past two days
VIJAYAWADA: The officials of Kanakadurga temple suspended movement of people on temple ghat road on Thursday as boulders started falling on the ghat road due to incessant rain for the past two days. The officials cleared the ghat road and however prevented movement of devotees as a precautionary measure fearing any mishap.
Boulders rolled down the ghat road in the early morning and luckily no one was present at that time. The temple officials allowed plying of temple buses to transport devotees. They arranged queue on the right side of ghat road to prevent falling of boulders on devotees.
Later, the temple engineering officials inspected the site and declared that there was no threat to devotees. The devotees started moving on the ghat road in the evening. Temple executive engineer M. Koteswara Rao said that due to continuous rain for the past two days, small boulders rolled down from the hill with loosened soil. He said that they are taking care of the ghat road for the safety of devotees and to prevent any mishap.
A woman devotee was injured on the ghat road when boulders rolled down due to heavy rainfall in July last year. Though the temple authorities arranged hill creeting and arranged iron wire mesh, falling of boulders turned a routine affair during rains.
