The Bar Code: There’s some rum in my beer!
Flavour wise, the Cubanisto, Anheuser-Busch InBev’s latest gamble
Those familiar with Desperados beer, which is tequila-infused beer, will love Cubanisto. Cubanisto is simply rum-flavoured premium beer with a fresh taste of citrus, orange zest, lime and an aroma of caramelised cane sugar and treacle. In this day of experimentation and innovation, it’s no surprise to find such crossovers in the world of alcohol.
The puritans may get their panties in a twist but crossovers are reaching out to the club-hopping youth today like the Bacardi Breezer did back in the 90s in India.
Flavour wise, the Cubanisto, Anheuser-Busch InBev’s latest gamble, has a lot of citrus undertones, and a sweet orange flavour that is the first taste one gets. The sweetness of the rum, as well as the potency, is present throughout, making this beer a delightful cooling beverage for rum lovers. Enhance the experience by adding a wedge of lime a la Corona; it’ll make you feel like you’re drinking a daiquiri!
But before you brush it aside a mild, fruity beer, beware that at 5.9 per cent ABV this is one potent lager. That said, it is a bit of a gimmicky drink and the novelty of it will take you only so far. But it’s worth a shot on a relentlessly sunny day.
