Minister’s nod paves way for the porject
Vijayawada: Health minister Kamineni Srinivas on Wednesday approved the Master Plan for construction of the super specialty block in the Government General Hospital, Vijayawada.
Expressing confidence that the people of the state would no longer need to go to other states for treatment once the super specialty hospital is inaugurated, the minister said, “Up to now, the health sector was concentrated in Hyderabad. We will provide the best medical services here and this will stop people from going to other states for treatment.”
Construction of the block will cost about Rs 150 crore, of which Rs 120 crore will come from the Centre in the form of a grant under the third phase of the ‘Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha’ scheme, as part of the upgradation of government medical colleges and institutions.
The state government will give the remaining Rs 30 crore. The super specialty block will be constructed in the Siddhartha Government Medical College premises, adjacent to the government hospital.
Mr Srinivas said that the master plan would be forwarded to the various departments for formal approval.
To meet the conditions of the PMSSY scheme, the government has decided to demolish half of the Siddhartha Medical College.
This space, along with the adjacent vacant land, will be used to construct two multi-storey buildings, one for the medical college and the other for the super specialty block. An auditorium and other required buildings in the campus are also part of the master plan.
