Jana Reddy seeks disqualification of Yellendu MLA for defection
Kanakaiah defected to the ruling TRS without quitting his Congress membership
Hyderabad: Leader of the Opposition in Telangana Assembly K. Jana Reddy on Wednesday met Speaker S. Madhusudana Chary and sought disqualification of Yellendu Congress MLA K. Kanakaiah from the membership of the House.
Mr Jana Reddy, along with few party MLAs, met the Speaker and submitted a petition stating that Mr Kanakaiah, who was elected on Congress ticket in the general election, defected to the ruling TRS without quitting his Congress membership. He enclosed few statements made by the MLA in this regard and the video clippings on joining the TRS in the presence of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
M Jana Reddy said under the provisions of the Tenth Schedule of Constitution and section 2(1) (A) of the said Act, the action of Mr Kanakaiah amounts to defection and this attracts disqualification. It is the second time within 15 days, Mr Jana Reddy submitted similar petition to the Speaker.
Earlier, he sought disqualification of the membership of G. Vittal Reddy, the Congress MLA elected from Mudhole constituency, in Adilabad district, who announced quitting the Congress and joined TRS.
In fact, leader of the Opposition in Telangana Legislative Council D. Srinivas submitted similar petitions before the Council Chairman K. Swamy Goud, complaining about the defections of as many as 10 Congress MLCs, including the Council Deputy Chairman, Neti Vidyasagara Rao, for joining the TRS without resigning the membership. All the petitions submitted by Congress leaders are pending for enquiry.
