Burglars attacked an elderly couple and robbed two sovereigns of gold
Coimbatore: Burglars attacked an elderly couple and robbed two sovereigns of gold at their residence in Annur, on the city's outskirts, on Wednesday. According to the police, the woman was admitted to the Coimbatore medical college hospital with grievous injuries.
The Annur police said Meenakshi Sundaram (66), a farmer from Lakshmi Garden in Kovilpalayam, and his 60-year-old wife Shymala had gone to bed on Tuesday night, locking the doors of their house. But the windows close to the front door were open.
On Wednesday, around 1 am, the burglars opened the front door with the help of the open windows near it. The gang attacked the elderly couple with a wooden log. They robbed two sovereigns of gold and valuable things from the house before fleeing.
On Wednesday early morning, the neighbours noticed the burglary at the house and injured couple. They then got them admitted to the CMCH. The police said Shymala's condition was critical and that she was undergoing treatment in the ICU ward of the hospital.
The Annur police registered a case and are on the look-out for the burglar gang.
