Widows from Bihar, West Bengal should not crowd Vrindavan: BJP MP Hema Malini
Mathura: BJP MP Hema Malini is in the eye of the storm for her comment that widows from Bengal and Bihar should stay in their respective states and not crowd Vrindavan.
Vrindavan, the holy city, which is home to thousands of destitute women, is a part of the Mathura district in Uttar Pradesh.
The actor-politician made the comments during a visit to her parliamentary constituency Mathura on Monday.
She further added, "Vrindavan widows have a bank balance, good income, nice beds, but they beg out of habit."

“Every state should look after the widows of their states. There is no more place in this holy city. If the widows belong here, they should be taken care of. But a large population is coming from Bengal, which is not right. Why don't they stay in Bengal? There are nice temples there in Bengal and Bihar too,” she said.
After touring a shelter home that was in a very poor state, Ms Malini said she would talk to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Hema Malini was elected from Mathura by a massive margin in the May national election.
The first-time Lok Sabha MP also faced criticism for her poor attendance in Parliament.
