Unprecedented security at Durga temple for Dasara

Nearly 8 lakh devotees visit the temple for darshan of the presiding deity during Dasara every year

Vijayawada: Unprecedented security arrangements will be in place around the Durga temple during Dasara.

The city police plans to leave nothing to chance, in the wake of a high alert being sounded in the state following a threat from the Al Qaeda recently.

Security arrangements are already underway at the temple premises starting from Vinayaka temple near VMC office to Indrakeeladri, the top of the hill and the ghat road.

While the temple authorities are busy making arrangements for the convenience of the devotees, the cops are concentrating on ensuring foolproof security.

Nearly 8 lakh devotees visit the temple for darshan of the presiding deity during Dasara every year, This year, the temple auth-orities expect the number to go up, since the city has been declared the capital.

The number of VIPs, legislators, ministers and politicians to visit the temple is also expected to increase.

Police officials have already identified vantage points where CC cameras would be installed, and have asked the temple authorities to provide 24x7 CCTV surveillance during the festival.

DCP Tafseer Iqubal said that as many as 3,000 police personal, including ACPs, inspectors, constables and home guards would be deployed in and around the temple round the clock.
