Newly Married Couple consumes poison
Coimbatore: A young couple attempted suicide in Vettaikaranpudur, near Anamalai, in Pollachi, due to a misunderstanding after marriage, the police said. According to the Anamalai police, B. Pavithra (18), who worked in a medical shop at Anamalai, married construction worker M. Balasubramaniyam (25) of the same area a week ago.
The police said on Saturday, around 10 pm, the couple had dinner and retired for the night. A few minutes later, the man woke up and was shocked to find that Pavithra had consumed poison - she was holding the poison bottle in her hand.
Subsequently, Balasubramaniyam also consumed poison but called his parents for help. Balasubramaniyam's parents admitted them to a private hospital where the two are said to be recuperating.
The Anamalai police said Pavithra was vexed at Balasubramaniyam's attitude and wanted to divorce him. They said as of now, their condition is said to be stable. The Anamalai police registered a case and are investigating it further.
