Legality of IPS allotment to AP and Telangana be examined

The bench granted two weeks to the AP government cautioning against further adjournments

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad bench of the Central Administrative Tribunal on Tuesday stated that it would examine the legality of the provisional allotment of IPS cadre to Telangana state and Andhra Pradesh.

A two member bench comprising B.V. Rao, and Minnie Matthew, was dealing with the pleas by senior IPS officers T.P. Das and S.A. Huda challenging the provisional allotment of the cadre.

The counsel representing AP urged the bench to adjourn the matter for two weeks to file its counter affidavit.

The Telangana state government submitted that that the Centre has given them only one Director General of Police rank officer in the provisional allotment.

The Telangana government also told the tribunal that they are waiting for the final allocation so that they can prepare a panel of DG rank officials and send it to Union Public Service Commission for selecting regular DGP.

Mohammad Shafiquzzaman, the counsel for the petitioners, found fault with the AP government which had kept quiet for a period of three months and was now suddenly seeking adjournments at the time of final hearing.

Jayaprakash Babu, the counsel for the Centre, urged the bench dismiss the case on the grounds that there was no point in looking at the provisional allotment now when the Pratyush Sinha committee is on the verge of making final allotment.

The bench granted two weeks to the AP government cautioning the counsel not to seek any more adjournments.
