Bengaluru: Revealing that the Sri Rama Sene’s involvement was evident in the recent communal disturbances both in Mangalore and Belgaum, home minister, K J George warned here on Tuesday that if it did not mend its ways the state government would ban it like neighbouring Goa.
As for former minister, Umesh Katti's demand for autonomy for North Karnataka, Mr George said there was no question of dividing the state. “Mr Katti is an individual and a legislator, but not a force to create such an environment. It is the decision of six crore people of Karnataka to stay together and people like Mr Katti cannot succeed in their divisive plans,'' he asserted, speaking to reporters here.
Asked about the state government's plans to release prisoners, the home minister said it had come up against some legal hurdles. “The Supreme Court has laid down some guidelines in Tamil Nadu’s case. We are preparing a list to place before the Supreme Court and any decision will be taken only after it gives its ruling,'' the minister explained.
