Jammu and Kashmir floods: 27 from Karnataka still missing
Bengaluru: At least 27 people from Karnataka, who had been to Jammu and Kashmir have not been traced so far in refugee camps or anywhere else. While the government has the names of 10 people, the names and details of the remaining 17 are yet to be ascertained.
Speaking to reporters here on Monday, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra said the family members of 10 missing people are still in touch with the government, while the family members of the other 17 are not traceable. As per information available with the government, 660 people from Karnataka were in Jammu and Kashmir when the floods hit the region.
Of them, 595 are safe. While some have returned, some have reached Delhi and Amritsar. Another 18 members have taken shelter in refugee camps set up by CRPF and BSF, while 20 people are working in Srinagar itself, Mr Jayachandra said. Meanwhile, the state government has released Rs 5 crore for flood relief work and is planning to send a team of doctors to Jammu and Kashmir.
