22 places in city to get purified water
Visakhapatnam: The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation is planning to set up reverse osmosis water purification system at 22 places in the city for providing safe drinking water under NTR Sujala Sravanti programme.
Currently, there is no water facility for nine slum areas in the city. Though water is available in another seven slums it is not fit for consumption, according to officials. Finally, six areas were having pipeline network without water supply. So, officials had selected these areas where safe drinking water needs to be provided.
Commissioner M.V. Satyanarayana said the plants are aimed at distributing 20 liters at Rs 2 and two plants would be arranged in each Assembly segment. He said they were searching for organisations for maintaining them under corporate social responsibility. Each unit costs Rs 5-6 lakh and it requires more than Rs 1 crore for setting them up for public convenience.
