Hyderabad: Rain snaps power line, four die near Haj House
Probe ordered; site was close to KCR fete at Haj House
Hyderabad: Four persons who had taken shelter in a bus stop died when a power cable fell on a puddle near them near the Haj House here on Monday evening.
The victims were returning home after work and took shelter at the bus stop when it began raining suddenly. A live wire fell in the water puddle in front of the bus stop and they were electrocuted.
Seven persons, including a 20-year-old woman, were injured in the incident. Of them, four persons died while two are undergoing treatment at hospital. One person was discharged after being administered first aid.
Central Zone DCP V.B. Kamalasen Reddy identified the victims as Sushil Yadav, 23, Kausal, 19, Rinkesh and Rupender, both 18. They belonged to Madhya Pradesh and were working at a a circus here.
Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had visited the Haj House just a few hours before the incident to bid farewell to pilgrims departing for Haj 2014.
The road leading to Haj House was closed for traffic and power officials conducted a thorough check at the spot.
Deputy Chief Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali, who rushed to the hospital, said an enquiry had been ordered into the incident. He said it was too early to explain the cause of the incident.
Earlier, the proximity of the bus stop to the Haj House led to rumours, especially over social media. This resulted in members of pilgrims’ families rushing to the Haj House and the hospital.
