Hyderabad: The Film Federation of India is authorised to select one film for the consideration of Oscars i.e. the Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film Award category. The selection committee set up for this purpose will view the films entered for selection from September 17 and will announce the name on September 23.

This year Minugurulu is the only Telugu film selected as a nominee for the Oscars. “Yes, my film is selected for the nomination, I am sure my film will give a stiff competition to other contenders,” says director and producer Ayodhya Kumar. Minugurulu has already won couple of awards like  Best Indian Cinema at Bengaluru International Film Festival and one  at last year’s Children’s Film Festival in Hyderabad.

This Telugu film is officially sent from the AP Film Chamber of Commerce as the nominee for the Oscars from India. “I got to know that this year mine is the only Telugu film to make the cut,” says Ayodhya Kumar.

Minugurulu released in January this year and has been critically acclaimed, especially some of the blind students who acted in it. The film federation will review this film along with films from other languages and make the final decision.
